I think it is wonderful to see a book that has such an appreciation for the normative developmental process of having to come to terms with one's fears. Your book provides one venue in which to integrate ones fears with suggestions e.g., talking with parents, through play of how a child might choose to work through fears. I just read your book tonight. I have been an educator for 30 years and I LOVE IT! It goes across all age levels and exudes warmth and love. It represents the philosophy I have tried to impart to all my 'kids' though the years. I wish I had your book yesterday to read to my seminar group at the University of Maryland. I currently train teachers as their student teaching supervisor and seminar instructor at the University. They are about to begin student teaching and were describing their fears. I referenced your book and they all wrote the title down and seemed very interested. That is what it so great about what you are doing-it spans across all ages. I also have a business working with students/families with learning disabilities and ADD. This is why your message rings so true with me. Many of my students have never felt the magic was in them. My job is to give them the tools to do it and to also give them the inspiration to believe it-just like Jazz does. I wish you much success and thanks for providing me with what I know will be a favorite Christmas gift for young and old. I look forward to meeting you someday.
My 5 year old son and I were in Borders one day and as we were collecting an armful of books to sit down and read together, I spotted the lovely illustration on the front cover and when I read the title aloud my son said, 'Yeah Mom, put that one in our pile!' We enjoyed the book so much that we went home and looked up Jazz on the web page and played the games contained there. As a former teacher and mother of two children I was quite impressed with the web site and the creative ideas contained there. I was so inspired by the reaction of my son that it awakened an old idea I have had to write my own children's book. I hope to have my children collaborate on it with me to help make it as enjoyable and interesting as I can and possibly get it out there eventually for other children to read.
Monsters in Your Bed...Monsters in Your Head has already become the favorite for both my 2 and 5 year olds - a process which usually takes weeks! I was especially impressed by your thoughtfulness in giving the lead characters the chance to take control of the Monsters herself. What an important lesson.
I was so charmed by Monsters in Your Bed…Monsters in Your Head that I didn't want to give it to my granddaughter for Christmas!!! But I did and my granddaughter and my son loved it too!
The catchy rhythm and rhyme and the colorful imagery delight the senses! The "friendly" monsters and sugar spun look (even the mud looks like chocolate) lighten the mood as a child learns to deal with the serious subject of fear. It is simply a beautiful book with a beautiful message! Jazz becomes more than just a"human-dog" as she talks with Angie to allay her fears. She becomes a magical mentor who awakens her to her fears and allows her to dream.
I gave Monsters in Your Bed...Monsters in Your Head to my twelve year old, she loved it. But not as much as I did! A nice read.

With Monsters in Your Bed...Monsters in Your Head Rainey and Betsy Dill have created a children's picture book that can bring youngsters comfort in dispelling the fears of the night while giving grownups a few chuckles as well.
I feel sure that this book will be a big help to parents of little gaffers. It will help them to get the boogie men out of the closet and into the light of day, where they can banish 'em. It got to me. I am ready to get a dog.
We are huge fans of "Monsters in Your Bed, Monsters in Your Head" and wanted to let you know. We gave it to our 22 month old and it is her favorite book. She tells everyone that herself when asked for the name of her favorite book and that is no small feat, considering how many books she has! A delightful tale of a child enabled to put her own fears (and many other things, great and small) in their rightful place in the world. This beautifully illustrated book is not only fun to read, it also sends an important message to children and their parents.
The book is truly outstanding - with incredible insights you have given children an opportunity to explore their feelings, understand and surface them. I love the wonderful little hearts on each page and what they represent. The illustrations are striking and vibrant. You should be very proud of what you have achieved. WOW! I don't know how you did it, but with your wonderful story, we are now sleeping through the night -- something that has not happened around here for a long time. My 5-year old daughter is totally at the age of monsters. We're definitely having an issue with monsters, meaning every night I hear, "Oh Mommy, I'm so scared the monsters are going to get me." Now, every night we go to be and she says, "Mommy, will you read me Monsters in Your Bed…Monsters in Your Head? I can't even tell you what an incredible effect it has had on my child. She has NO FEAR of MONSTERS anymore and NO FEAR of GOING TO SLEEP. She loves your book and loves the animation. We are very into reading, read all the time and have never read a book like this. It is her favorite book of all time. I can't thank you enough for your book and the impact it has had.
DreamDog Press is definitely leading the way in any children's books that I have seen in my 8 years of buying books for children. In only a month, my eight year old has memorized the entire book after reading it to her younger siblings (4 and 2 ½) so many times. The eight year old might skip a sentence, but the four year old quickly catches it. I'm spreading the word to all my friends and educators about this fabulous life lesson book for all.
My two and a half year old, Kai, loves your book. In fact, after only the first reading, he said, "again, again." That is not his typical response. He usually grabs for another book, but yours we read over and over. At this point, he's simply fascinated by all the monsters and ghosts (especially the picnic with the bugs and bees) so we haven't had the chance to elaborate on the themes of the book. I figure that will come later. After a week, Kai was still asking for your book every night before bed. He now refers to it as "Jazz the DreamDog" book and it is definitely his favorite.

Rainey is not only brilliant but a caring and giving author. It is rare to find an author who has dedicated her life to helping children. Her first story in a series of many strives to enable kids to be independent in solving their own problems. "Monsters..." achieves this goal by helping them overcome fear. It is a story that children from around the world will enjoy. I've used this book with my students, my own children and their friends and found it to be a wonderful story over and over again. Children love the rhyming, rich vocabulary, illustrations and topics for discussion. Parents appreciate the education it gives to their kids. I am anxiously awaiting Rainey's next book!!!
